Introduction – The Murky Depths

People suffering from mysterious symptoms want to know the root cause, and HCPs want to provide answers. This environment fosters the development and circulation of theories.

Evidence–based HCPs often ignore theories. However, theories stimulate new ideas and out-of-the-box thinking and sometimes become helpful, validated treatments. In many cases, clients find relief from their symptoms. In Module #8:  Counselling Skills, I have included a lesson on using theories in your practice.

For each theory, there are many variations on the internet (e.g., several low histamine lists). Do not get caught up in figuring out the “right” list or what parts of the theory are evidence-based. It is a futile search (I have wasted many hours on this). Once again, focus on the big picture (the forest!).
