Talk with Clients about Non-Validated Testing

Before providing information to the client, it is essential to know if the client wants your opinion about the test’s validity or help to implement it. It took me a long time to learn this!

Non-validated testing is a challenging topic! Typically, HCPs say, “The test is not supported by science.” Unfortunately, food-sensitivity clients are often frustrated by the mainstream medical system and do not care about scientific validation. I have found it more helpful to highlight that every test gives a different answer, and each company claims that its test is the “gold standard.”

Asking the client why they had the testing done can help you understand their concerns. Did the client request the testing, or did a health practitioner suggest it? Once you appreciate your client’s concerns, you can gear your interventions accordingly.

Elimination diets and food challenges can be tedious, but without evidence-based testing, this process is the best tool for helping clients identify problematic foods (if any).
