Guided Visualizations

When logic says you’re safe, but your body still feels fear, visualization can bridge the gap — creating new associations through imagery, sensation, and possibility.

When you’re caught in the C-FAST cycle, food and unpleasant sensations may start to feel like danger cues (see Exploring the C-FAST Model). Visualization is one way to shift this pattern.  It helps your brain create new associations of safety, pleasure, and nourishment with food—rather than illness or threat.

Visualizations don’t have to be clinical or effortful. They can be a soothing part of your day — a relaxing break you look forward to.

Visualization Tips

  • Practice the same visualization each day for at least one week. Repetition helps the new associations sink in.
  • For the first few days, it may feel a bit forced or awkward—and that’s completely normal. Give yourself time.
  • Try practising at the same time each day; before meals or at bedtime often works well.
  • Choose a comfortable, quiet space where you’re unlikely to be interrupted.
  • Make yourself cozy if you’d like—using a soft blanket can add to the sense of comfort.
  • Headphones can help you focus; noise-cancelling ones may be especially helpful in a loud environment.
  • You can download the recording by clicking the three dots on the right.
  • After approximately one week of practice, try out that situation in real life, to see if the visualization has shifted your typical emotional or behavioural reaction. Don’t expect a miraculous transformation in seven days—but even a small shift is meaningful progress.

Each visualization follows a similar structure. You begin with a short relaxation and grounding exercise, then step into a beautiful garden. You wander along a flower-lined path until you reach a magical cabin. Inside, each visualization offers a different transformational experience.

There’s no set order for these visualizations—start with whichever one resonates with you most at this point in your journey.
